LINKS
The old saying "A rising tide floats all boats" very much describes our personal take on Capitalism.  You won't hear us bad-mouthing our competition; we prefer to promote the green industry as a whole as we're all different and each have our particular areas of expertise.  First up, this list of links to other nurseries and garden-related businesses in fabulous, freaky Fremont!  More than ever, this neighborhood is becoming a destination for furnishing your outdoor living spaces.  Enjoy - and if you own or know of a business that should be linked here, please let us know.
INDOOR SUN SHOPPE - Since 1970, first in the University District and now Fremont, your go-to resource for indoor gardening supplies.  Grow lights, full-spectrum lights for people, some fun house plants and expert advice.  They're walking distance from us, just down the Burke-Gilman trail.

LUCCA STATUARY - Also an easy walk from our nursery, Lucca was a Ballard institution for years but their main facility is now in Fremont.  A definite European flavor to their wares - urns, fountains, statuary - much of it manufactured in-house.  Decorate your garden, your home or your mausoleum - they've got it all.

SEASONS NURSERY -
1051 N 35th Street, Seattle, WA 98103 ph. (206) 632-1760 (no website).  Site of the former Piriformis, this micro-nursery specializes in drought tolerant plants, garden art and gifts.  Well, not sure how drought-tolerant the art and gifts are, but you know what I mean.  Full-service landscaping, too, from design to installation.

URBANWEEDS - Nifty plants, eco-friendly containers, garden art and accoutrements for the modern urban gardener with minimalist sensibilities (and minimal space).  New in 2007, they already got a mention in Sunset magazine - it'll be fun to see what they do this year.

DAVE'S GARDEN - I like this site a lot.  Their Plant Files are a very worthwhile resource to get basic information on hardiness, growth habit, size and all that but there are frequently pictures as well, and real home gardener testimonials from around the country.  Don't be afraid to search for rarities - you'll rarely be disappointed.  Vendor availability lists, too, and ratings/rankings of the best mail-order sources.  It's worth it to do the free membership thing as you'll be able to do more searches but most people won't need to bump up to the paid membership, unless you want to join the forums and get more involved.

SPECIALTY NURSERY ASSOCIATION OF WESTERN WASHINGTON - This is the online version of the printed pamphlet we distribute free by the cash register.  Independent nurseries large and small, region-wide, are represented here with a descriptive paragraph, hours of operation, contact info and - maps!  Pick a destination, see how many shops there are to visit in that area and make the circuit - you'll find ample evidence that we DO all stand on our own merits and no two places are quite alike.  We've found this to be one of the best uses of our limited advertising budget.
Next: some of our favorite online gardening resources.
Last but very far from least: friends of Emerald City Gardens, the people who believe in us, have supported us and in at least one case, made us who we are today!  Warm thanks to all.
LAPLANTE LANDSCAPE DESIGN - We were honored when Laura asked us for part-time work here at the nursery; like a majority of us she's an old-time Fremont Gardens staffer but she also worked at Molbak's back in the day.  Today she's a successful landscape designer who *gasp* also does installation and maintenance!  Her website showcases her beautiful work and if you like what you see, don't hesitate to come in and chat her up.

PLANTED AT HOME - This is the website of Lorene Edwards Forkner, our old boss back in Fremont Gardens days.  This site represents, in the best possible way, what becomes of former nursery owners.  :)  Author of one book (so far) and numerous magazine articles, Lorene is teaming with the publisher of the Northwest Garden News to conduct garden tours locally, regionally and eventually internationally (there are even rumors of a trip to South Africa, but you didn't hear it here).  Wherever it is she's going, we raise our virtual martini glasses in her general direction for her years of service to the gardening community and giving us this wonderful opportunity to make our own way.  Big hugs, Lorene.  Sk

If you are a garden-related business or resource that would like to be linked here, please submit a request and we'll see what we can do to accomodate you.  A reciprocal link is warmly appreciated, but not necessary.
