Emerald City Gardens opened in the spring of 2008, a small urban garden center in the post-industrial zone between north Seattle's Ballard and Fremont neighborhoods. There's a yellow brick road going out the back door and a little shack that sure enough looks like it fell on a witch, but Dorothy has moved on and we got rid of the flying monkeys - now you can shop in peace, without fear, and endure surprisingly few Wizard of Oz references while you're here.
Beyond the yellow brick road you'll find a happy abundance of perennials, groundcovers, succulents, ferns, shrubs and trees - enough old favorites for comfort, but featuring new or unusual varieties whenever we can. Inside: beautiful houseplants for almost any indoor space, things you've seen before and things you haven't, as well as seeds, bulbs, fertilizers, bulk soil amendments, small tools, containers, books, garden art and more. Our front courtyard features seasonal color, herbs year-round, scented geraniums, vegetable starts in spring, summer and fall, including an amazing heirloom tomato collection that arrives about mid-April. Dozens of varieties of coleus, one of our specialties, are usually available by Mothers Day.
We're open year-round 10am to 6pm, currently closed Tuesdays. We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the week between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, re-opening Saturday, January 2nd, 2010.
